THE NEXT GENERATION
A look back on an impressive 7v7 career
With the 2023-24 7v7 season coming to a close last week - it’s time to highlight some of our premier athletes who have killed it this past season.
Tyler Nystrom and Josh Wedel encompass what being a Potenza Athlete is all about. Their hard work and dedication only scratch the surface as to how much passion and drive these two elite players have.
Wedel, who has been training and competing for Potenza for the past 3 years has come a long way.
“When I started out, I was a freshman in high school and I was terrible. And [Potenza] has helped me progress as a better athlete,” Wedel said.
This 2025 grad has since received eight offers to compete at the next level. From a fresh faced new comer - to a current Division 1 recruit - a lot can change with a few years dedication. With one more year of left before he joins the 100+ Potenza alumni in competing in the NCAA - this Tight End out of Chaska is prepped and ready to push himself to the next level.
Wedel will be apart of Potenza's 2024 Summer College Bus Trip. He will be stepping out to show hundreds of other recruiters all that he's worked for. The bus leaves Thrusday, May 30th - there is still time to join Wedel and several other Potenza Athletes on the road to becoming college stars.
Nystrom competed in his final 7v7 game on Sun. May 12, after three years of competing. He has been signed and ready to move to the University of Wyoming, as a 3-star Wide Receiver for the Cowboys Football Team.
“Potenza definitely helped getting me prepared for the competition that comes with being on that kind of big stage,” Nystrom said.
It’s a bittersweet ending for Nystrom. The 2024 Mounds View graduate came to every practice, workout and competition ready to train harder and better. His drive for success is what made him the athlete he is today.
Wise words from our graduate. Our program will cheer for you loud and proud as you take the next steps in becoming the best athlete you can be!
